All Aboard With AI: How To Overcome AI Adoption Struggles

Here’s an AI obstacle not many see coming.

As if getting the powers-that-be to commit to an AI vision (and investment) wasn’t enough — and as if convincing an audience that the tools in place will ultimately benefit them and their goals isn’t a constant uphill battle — imagine having an AI plan fall apart because of rogue employees.

That’s the concern coming out of Writer’s “Generative AI Adoption In The Enterprise” survey, which found that 42% of C-suite executives say AI adoption is “tearing their companies apart.”

“Optimism around AI is increasing, yet nearly two out of three C-suite executives report that generative AI adoption has sparked division within their organizations,” the report summary says, with 71% saying their AI applications are created in value-diminishing silos.

Although optimism towards AI was high for both C-suite execs (93%) and employees (90%) alike, the C-suite executives used it more for data analysis (54% to 41%), customer service (47% to 40%), knowledge management (46% to 35%), and automating complex tasks (42% to 28%).

“The vast majority of both audiences — 88% of employees and 97% of executives — say they’ve benefited from generative AI tools in at least one way, noting that these tools have given them more time to focus on strategy, innovation, and relationship building at work,” the report says.

One-third of those working against their company’s genAI strategy say their main reason is because AI diminishes their value or creativity, with 28% concerned for their job, 28% citing security issues, and 28% deeming their company’s tools low-quality.

And while it may be reductive to say that communication would help with many of these concerns, there is something to be said for a firm, transparent plan; the research found that 80% of the companies with a formal AI strategy were successful at adoption and implementation, as opposed to the 37% who reported success despite not having a strategy.

“The companies pulling ahead aren’t just using AI to do the same work, faster,” the report says of those finding success. “They’re using it to unlock new value and empower their employees to push boundaries, think bigger, and work in entirely new ways. This people-first approach isn’t just a differentiator. It’s the defining factor in whether enterprises successfully navigate the transition to become AI-first.”
